Woolworths has found themselves back in the hotseat after customers spotted another sudden price increase from one of their favourite items – a house brand fruit juice.

A month after being dragged by Survivor South Africa host Nico Panagio over their regular hikes, the retailer shamelessly did it again.

Needless to say, consumers are not happy…

WOOLWORTHS CUSTOMERS SPOT SUDDEN PRICE HIKE

According to one tweep, Woolworths had advertised a “promotion” for their in-house 100% fruit juice blends: four one-litre cartons for R92.

However, fellow consumers noted that the price had come just days after advertising the same combo for R86. Tweeps added that just a few weeks ago, the very same combo was just R75.

Here’s what tweeps had to say:

@trmakgatho: “The price increased by almost R10 in less than a week. Woolworths, what’s going on?”

@karaboshaba: “This is a great way of scamming people. I learned this in grade 11 accounting.”

@MrsNeylwe: “It’s the price of milk (6 pack) that gives me palpitations. How did we get here?”

@pengrafadi: “I know it will be R110 by June.”

@Thubz_: “Water will do, coz WTF!”

MORE PRICEY ITEMS GIVEN REGULAR HIKES

While Woolworths is known for both its quality luxury goods and reasonably priced staple items, its also known for its rising food prices.

Here are five popular but pricey items customers complained about …

Milk

This week’s Woolworths debate kicked off after one tweep compared the prices of store-brand milk. Unsurprisingly the retailer topped the list for the most expensive brand.

But while many customers called out Woolies for the hefty price tags, others justified that the price matched the store’s quality standards.

Bread

Woolworths stock a variety of specialty loaves of bread that cater to all tastes and diets. Despite having a market for it, tweeps were not convinced of the price tag attached to this loaf of gluten-free bread.

Rotisserie chicken

Love it or loathe it, the buttery grilled chicken remains a favourite on Woolies ready-made meal selection.

However, people are not loving the price tag, which has increased significantly in recent months.

Pies

Customers have complained that Woolworths has hiked the price of their pies from R26,99 to R34,99 – a small fortune – in recent months.

Tin roof ice cream

And finally, one of Woolworth’s most-loved items is their house brand of ice cream – the most popular one being Tin Roof!

But is it worth the price?
