Woolworths was not ready for this cheeky tweep who took the time to call them out for raising the price of their rotisserie chicken. Taking to Twitter on Thursday this week, the user questioned why the price of the chicken went up by R10 in less than a week. Hilariously, the user wondered whether the chicken has graduated now and costs more leaving other users to chip in with their own funny responses to the unexpected price hike.

Woolies chicken gets a good roasting – online

There’s always something hilarious going on online – especially in South Africa.

One cheeky tweep left many giggling after picking a bone – a chicken bone to be exact – with local store Woolworths.

Taking to Twitter on 14 July this week, the Tweep wondered why the price of the shop’s rotisserie chicken went up by a whopping R10 in such a short space of time.

“Hi @WOOLWORTHS_SA

“Why is your Rotisserie chicken now R99.99 from R89.99? Did it get a degree or pay off its Nsfas or something?” asked a clearly dismayed and quite funny @VendaVendor.

Hilarious comments ensue

While Woolies did not respond to the tweet, it received over 2000 reactions and comments from other Twitter users who offered a variety of opinions and jokes about the poultry situation.

“Everything went up. Producing it has been so expensive lately. Feed alone in the past 3 months has gone up by R15 per bag. Electricity, fuel and gas. The farmers input costs is gone up. Woolies doesn’t pick the chicken from a tree unfortunately.”

“This chicken doesn’t qualify for NSFAS. It’s family income is too high. It has to pay back it’s parents for the two bedroom apartment it had while studying on the farm”
