Julius Malema continues to divide South Africa and grab the headlines in all corners of the world. But Juju the politician is very different to Juju the husband of Mrs Mantwa Matlala Malema.
Any married man will tell you that the best way to experience “radical economic transformation” is to get married and see what happens to your finances. However, it seems like these two are beyond besotted with each other.
Mantwa Matlala Malema is certainly a woman of mystery, yet Julius is never shy when it comes to showing her off. So what else do we need to know about the EFF leader’s “management”, as he calls her?

She’s a huge inspiration behind Juju’s weight loss
Julius Malema is a lot of things to a lot of people. But he is unquestionably a man committed to his family. Part of his weight loss journey has been inspired by family life, and his wife is the driving force behind it.
He has credited her with pushing him to give up sugar. Furthermore, he has refrained from alcohol in order to “act more like a father”.
Mantwa is worshipped like a queen by Julius
Look, we all know that one couple who are insufferable on social media when they write love stories about each other on their pages, right? Well, Julius Malema is perhaps the last person you’d expect to do this. Yet here we are…
We’re only teasing, of course. Julius Malema has every right to boast about his other half. The happy couple are absolutely crazy about each other, and Mantwa seems to have melted that fire in Juju’s heart.
She is purposefully elusive
Barely anything is known about her background, history, or life before Julius Malema. Which is a pretty exceptional achievement, considering her place in society. She’s been able to keep her private life very private indeed, just how it should be.
Mantwa can apparently party hard
This is by far our favourite Mrs Malema story, though. Before her wedding in 2014, City Press claim there was a pretty wild bridal shower for Juju’s life partner.
They report that things got very saucy at the Saxon Hotel in Sandton. An anonymous source told the publication that it was far from a quiet night:
“There were about 15 ladies at the event. They were entertained by male strippers prancing up and down and stripping to the point of being almost naked.”
“Prized Champagne was flowing and good fun was had by all. Obviously, she received many gifts from the friends.”
There’s a rumour Mrs Malema forces Juju to the movies
Another obscure notion about Mantwa is what she has to do to convince Julius to sit through a movie. Malema has allegedly complained that he doesn’t want to watch movies, dominated by white people he “doesn’t understand”.
In comments attributed to him following an appearance on SABC’s Real Talk With Anele, Juju reportedly said his wife forces him to take in blockbuster flicks. Because nothing says “date night” like forcing your partner to have fun!
