“We are not done yet.” Anonymous warns of more SABC website hacks

They’ve targeted everyone from presidents to the Islamic State, but it’s the SABC that now finds itself at the mercy of the Anonymous hacktivists.

Anonymous launched an attack on the SABC over the weekend, leaving some of its sites down and others severely slowed down, but the group isn’t done with the controversial state broadcaster yet.

Anonymous Africa announced on their Twitter account that they would attack the SABC, following new regulations that essentially censor the national broadcaster from reporting the news in an open and honest manner.

Yesterday Anonymous Tweeted: “Attacks against all SABC entities now underway.”

“You have heard of the Arab Spring? Well now its time for the #African Summer!” Another Tweet read.

They added that they had carried out a Distributed Denial of Service (DDos) attack on the SABC; essentially flooding the broadcaster’s  website servers with thousands of requests that eventually disrupt their sites.

The SABC’s Kaizer Kganyago condemned the attacks and called the Anonymous hacktivists “cowards.”

“It is a serious matter that we are not taking lightly,” he told Fin24.
