The latest trailer for the upcoming US blockbuster Coming 2 America sees Eddie Murphy rocking a vest from the proudly South African knitwear brand, Maxhosa.

It is said that messages of praise have been pouring in for the brand Maxhosa by Laduma Ngxokolo after the second official trailer was released.

“Ye, you will be seeing Eddie Murphy rocking that Maxhosa drip on the upcoming Coming 2 America film,” said one Twitter user.

‘Coming 2 America’ trailer

The news comes after a press release confirmed that Amazon Studios will exclusively release Coming 2 America globally on Prime Video on 5 March 2021.

The comedy sequel stars Eddie Murphy as King Akeem, the ruler of Zamunda, and Arsenio Hall as Semmi, his best friend and advisor. The film is set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda, where newly-crowned King Akeem and his trusted confidante Semmi embark on an all-new hilarious adventure that has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of Queens, New York – where it all began.

According to TimesLive, the release of the official trailer set the streets abuzz in Mzansi, especially when they saw Eddie rocking a Maxhosa vest.

“30 years later and Eddie Murphy still looks the same. so freaking excited,” said one Twitter user. “Looks like fun. Could do with a good laugh,” said another.

A dream come true

Meanwhile, South African fans were excited to see US-based, South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha starring in the film. While she does not make it onto the trailer, fans are still looking to her screenplay.

The actress, who was born in KwaMashu, north of Durban and who moved to Los Angeles in 2019, said working with Hollywood heavyweights like Murphy is a “dream come true”.

“Never thought I would make a dope collar pin *rubs hands like Birdman. The work. Water the seeds of your heart’s desires with gratitude and thankfulness,” the actress wrote on Instagram.
