Pick n Pay has clapped back at a woman who mocked men who use Smart Shopper cards.

A viral video of a woman mocking men who use Smart Shopper store cards has caught the attention of retailer Pick n Pay, and their response is even shadier than the original video!

The video was shared on TikTok by user “Khanyababy” who lamented South African men trying to save money while shopping.

In the clip, the woman says: “Am I the only person who finds it so embarrassing when a guy has a Smart Shopper card? Like, why? That’s so embarrassing!”

But South Africans weren’t sharing the woman’s sentiments in the video has had close to five million views. 

On Twitter, many felt that the video was sexist and condescending…

@nwaby_90: “Very hard being a man! Next thing, it’s embarrassing for a man to do groceries.”

@yogetto6: “Kgante men are not supposed to save too. Sis is embarrassing herself.”

@IAmShahieda: They complain when the men don’t have money. They complain when the men are trying to save money.”

PICK N PAY CLAPS BACK

But while the woman did her best to shame men who use Smart Shopper cards, Pick n Pay clapped back, encouraging all its consumers to be wise instead.

The retailer tweeted from their official account: “Imagine your boyfriend not being smart, not having a Smart Shopper card & paying full price [red flag emoji]. How #embarrassing! I

Pick n Pay then offered a giveaway for “smart boyfriends.”

It continued: “If you’re a smart boyfriend, comment below, and you could win R500 in Smart Shopper points.”

Apart from Pick n Pay, Clicks – who also have a loyalty store card – also jumped on the bandwagon.

If he is not loyal to Clicks ClubCard, what is he loyal to?”

Along with Black Twitter, Cassper Nyovest also reacted to the shopping fiasco.

The Mzansi rapper tweeted in response: “That’s why it’s called a SMART shopper card.”

Like Pick n Pay, he also offered an enticing voucher to his male followers…
