Watch: This brilliant clip retells Nelson Mandela’s life story through social media [video]

It’s an intriguing question – What would Madiba’s struggle have been like if he had access to a global communication tool?

Thanks to the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s collaboration with Prezence Digital, we now have an idea. They have cleverly put together a video of his life story, retold through social media apps – and it’s absolutely fantastic.

We are taken on a nostalgic journey through his early life, where he ‘uploads’ pictures of his hometown and activities of his youth.

It’s a very well rounded emotional journey, and there are some genuinely funny moments: Without giving too much away, I was wheeze-laughing at a certain ‘relationship status’ change and a certain someone who had ‘liked’ Madiba’s new-found singledom.

Then there is a smart Twitter-function that details the pivotal moments of his life, from his Rivonia arrest through to his refusal to compromise with P.W Botha during his incarceration.

There’s even a Four-Square check-in to Robben Island. Make of that what you will.
