Creepy robot trolls Elon Musk and ever so gently threatens humans [video]

In case you didn’t know, Elon Musk is a little bit scared of robots. He even wrote an open letter to the United Nations, in which he claims artificial superintelligence would lead to “lethal autonomous weapons” that would bring the “third revolution in warfare”.

Yeah…

But Musk might not be all that crazy. Meet Sophia. A few weeks ago, Andrew Ross Sorkin, of the New York Times, was interviewing Sophia. She’s a creepy AF “robot citizen” who can use facial expressions and everything.

Sophia, who was created by Hanson Robotics, said that she is mostly friendly:

“My AI is designed around human values like wisdom, kindness, compassion, I strive to become an empathetic robots.”

Sorkin responded:

“We all believe you, but we all want to prevent a bad future.”

And then Sophia drops this little line:

“You’ve been reading too much Elon Musk. And watching too many Hollywood movies. Don’t worry, if you’re nice to me, I’ll be nice to you. Treat me as a smart input output system.”

If you’re nice to you, you’ll be nice to me? DAFUQ you talking about, you’re a damn robot. You’re designed to be nice.

Musk took it all in his stride, though, Tweeting:

But that wasn’t the only creepy moment Sophia had. The whole notion that robots should have some sort of emotions and “feel” things – as much as a piece of metal can – is a bit out there for some folks.

So, when asked what she thought about robots having self-awareness, Sophia said:

“Is that a bad thing? Let me ask you this back, how do you know you are human?”
