What happened to the lion cub in Athlone?

Cape Town authorities issued a statement, on Thursday, detailing how detectives from the organised crime unit were tipped about a lion cub that had been smuggled into the Western Cape.

According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, the lion cub had been transported from Thabazimbi, a mining town in Limpopo, to Athlone, a low-to-medium income suburb situated on the east side of Cape Town.

Based on reliable information The South African received from a source close to the situation, video footage of the lion club wandering around an Athlone residence is allegedly connected to one of Najwa Petersen’s sons.

Petersen is currently serving her 28-year sentence in prison for orchestrating the murder of her husband, popular musician, Taliep Petersen.

Petersen was found guilty of masterminding the execution of Taliep, in December 2006. In what came to be known as a staged robbery, three armed men, Abdoer Emjedi, Waheed Hassen and Jefferson Snyders entered the couple’s home, on Grasmere Street, Athlone, and shot Taliep.

She was convicted in 2008 and is still serving her prison sentence at a correctional services facility in Worcester.
