This vet wants you to know one thing before putting your pet down

Having to put down your pet is one of the saddest things one has to go through. A vet shared that this is something pet owners will eventually have to go through and explained how they should deal with this.

‘ALL THEY KNOW IS YOU AS THEIR FAMILY’

In an emotional Facebook post shared on the Hillcrest Veterinary Hospital page in 2018, a vet mentions that a furry friend will most likely pass away before its owners. 

The anonymous vet continues to mention that there is one thing they want pet owners to know. 

“You have been the centre of their world for THEIR ENTIRE LIVES!!!! They may just be a part of yours but all they know is you as their family.”

HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR PETS

The post continues to mention that pet owners should not leave their pets in a room with other people. 

“The thing you people need to know that most of you don’t is that THEY SEARCH FOR YOU WHEN YOU LEAVE THEM BEHIND. Don’t be a coward because you think it is just too hard for YOU, imagine what they feel as you leave them in their most vulnerable time.”

Saying goodbye to your pet is never easy because they mean the world to us. American Humane has noted a few ways that families can say goodbye to their pets.

The organisation notes that every member of the family should have a private moment to say goodbye. Explaining why the pet has to be put down to children might be difficult to navigate, but it’s important that they are aware of what is happening.

The overall important thing is to create a safe space in your household when a pet is about to be put down.
