US town turns down solar panels, because they “suck the energy out of the sun”

Yup, there are folks out there who actually believe that solar panels are draining the sun of its energy and as such have decided that their town won’t host such devilry.

According to Mashable, folks in Woodland, North Carolina aren’t all that keen on solar power and voted to reject a rezoning application allowing a solar farm to be built in near the town. The vote also put a moratorium on all other solar development.

The town had previously approved three solar farms, but towns-folks – who likely also drill their skulls open to let the ‘demons’ out when they’ve got a headache – put a stop to any new developments.

A retired science – no jokes folks – teacher, Jane Mann, said that she was worried about the effect the panels would have on photosynthesis of plants, impacting on their growth. The science – read fairy tales and hokum – teacher claims that all the plants surrounding solar farms are brown and dead.

Another resident, Bobby Mann – starting to see a trend here – said that he’s worried the panels would “suck up all the energy from the sun,” the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald reported

Now, while this might be painful for those of you with half a noggin intact; imagine the meeting between the folks of Woodland and the Strata Solar Company, who had to argue their point with actual facts in their attempt to get approval for the new solar farm.

Brent Niemann from Strata tried the direct approach, explaining to the folks in Woodland that solar panels only use the energy from that sun that hits them, and don’t suck energy from the sun… it’s a passive process. It obviously didn’t fly and the town council voted against this magic.
