Things to do in Joburg this Valentine’s Day

If you still don’t know what you’re going to do in Johannesburg this Valentine’s Day, here are a couple of ideas that might make you and your partner happy.

1. Movie under the stars

If you’re looking to see a movie under the stars, the Moonlit Cinema – Valentine’s Edition at the Rose Garden at Emmarentia Dam on 14 February will set the mood.

The ‘cinema’ offers a complimentary glass of sparkling wine on arrival and there’s also food traders and an oyster bar. People are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets, snacks and drinks. There will also be a fully stocked bar onsite.

2. Moonlight Market

Waterfall Valentine’s Moonlight Market on 14 February is set to dazzle you with a movie, a picnic, live music, twinkle tent lights, food stalls, romance, cocktails, love, and a photo booth.

The market will run from 18:00 – 23:00 at Waterfall Park adjacent to the Mall of Africa. You can pre-book a picnic spot or table at www.itickets.co.za at R25 per person (kids under the age of 2 enter the market for free). Tickets will also be sold at the gates on the day of event – depending on availability.

3. Dinner and Dance!

Chicago’s Piano Bar Fourways is throwing a Valentine Dinner and Dance Social on 14 February from 18:00.

The bar is offering a two meal course for R99 and an after party with a DJ and more.

4. Movie on the Misty Hills’ Lawn

Misty Hills Country Hotel is hosting a special Valentine’s Day on 14 February with a romantic picnic and movie on the Misty Hills’ Lawn for only R 395 per person. Or, those interested can enjoy a five-course dinner in the Summerhouse Restaurant for only R 490 per person sharing.

All inclusive accommodation packages are also available on request for those who’d like to spend the night.

5. A special Valentines dinner

The Good Food Studio on Nicol is hosting a special valentine’s Day dinner for R700 per couple. The romantic dinner will start off at 18:00 to 21:00 on 14 February.

6. Picnic in the park

Riversands Farm Village is hosting a picnic in the park together with Picnics in the Park. This year will be their fourth annual “Movies in the Park” for Valentines and to celebrate, this year is themed “Valentines Red Carpet”.

The prize for best dressed is a Hot Air Balloon Safari for two.

People are advised to dress as “a character from their favorite film, celebrate the 80’s, the ‘naughties’ and so many more!”
