The Kevin Richardson Foundation’s #LandForLions campaign recently reached its first goal in order to reclaim habitat and give it back to nature.

The foundation recently achieved their first goal, which was to raise R1,900,000 in order to reclaim habitat for Lions. But, they were pleasantly surprised when their goal was met with R2,738,975 from what they call backers on Thundafund. This is believed to be the most money raised for one cause on Thundafund thus far.

The Kevin Richardson Foundation’s first campaign started at home; securing land for the sanctuary lions that have helped build a worldwide network of advocates for lions.

Kevin Richardson, also known as The Lion Whisperer said that lions have lost 90% of their former rang over the last 100 years.

“Scientists predict that by 2050 there will be no wild lions left in the wild.”

The foundation’s next goal is to raise R4 million.

About The Kevin Richardson Foundation:

The Kevin Richardson Foundation is a non-profit conservation organisation with nature’s most majestic creature, the lion, at its heart.

Launched in early 2018 the foundation is committed to changing and reversing the state of Africa’s declining lion population by purchasing habitat and raising awareness to create safe, natural spaces where lions and other native species can flourish.

By partnering with specialised organisations and engaging with impoverished communities on the fringes of these protected areas, the foundation also aims to minimise human/wildlife conflict whilst improving living conditions for local villages.

The foundation has four key aims: This includes acquiring and protecting, educate and empower, creating a community and of course, maintaining and protecting.

The foundation hopes that this is not just a campaign, but a movement.

“This is a movement wherein the public and our online family come together and fight to return habitat to these majestic creatures that are disappearing at an alarming rate.”
