The City of Gold has just added another radio station to its airwaves. The newly launched STARFM is a community station, which is youth-driven and targets listeners in the 18 to 34 age group. The station broadcasts to Johannesburg’s northern suburbs on FM radio.
STARFM now resides on the 91.9 FM frequency which was previously home to Joburg’s Best Old Skool and R&B station, Hot 91.9 FM. Hot 91.9 has migrated to the 102.7 FM frequency which was previously held by Classic102.7 FM.
Listeners can still delight in the classical sounds of Classic 102.7 on DSTV Audio Channel 857 or via online audio streaming. Classic FM is now known as Hot Classic.
Johannesburg’s northern suburbs will be able to tune into STARFM on the 91.9 frequency.
STARFM aims to be fun, inclusive and real, while it informs, inspires and entertains the community. Being true to its tagline “The best local music and more!”, the station promotes local artists by playing a large amount of South African music.
STARFM’s line-up includes radio personalities that many listeners might already be familiar with.
Several STARFM’s presenters hail from other well-known radio stations. Listeners may recognise the voices of the Greg and Lucky duo previously from 94.7 FM, 702’s Mantsoe Pout, Mzi Kaka and Adrian Naidoo from Hot 91.9 FM.
The station also welcomes stand-up comedian and entertainer Mark Mdluli to its line-up.
STARFM 91.9’s programme manager Caren Du Preez is eager and excited about the new station, which she believes will become a firm favourite in no time.
“We aim to be different, inclusive, hot, trend-setting, authentic, professional and, more importantly, we want our listeners to feel like they are truly a part of this amazing journey. I’m confident that our STAR team will fast become the firm favourite in the radio firmament,” said Du Preez, as quoted in MediaUpdate.
Listeners can catch STARFM on 91.9 FM and online.
