WORLD’S BEST 50 BEST RESTAURANTS LIST

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list was announced on Monday 18 July at an invite-only ceremony in London. Emmy award-winning actor Stanley Tucci, best known for his roles in The Devil Wears Prada and Supernova, hosted the occasion.

Geranium, a restaurant in Copenhagen, Denmark, was named the best restaurant in the world for the second year. The restaurant’s chef, Rasmus Kofoed, is the first chef in Denmark to have earned three Michelin stars.

World’s 50 Best Restaurants hails Geranium as “pure art on a plate that uses Scandinavia’s seasonal larder as its palette”.

FYN MAKES TOP 50

South African chef-patron Peter Tempelhoff’s Fyn is ranked at number 37 and is praised for its Japanese technique and locally sourced produce. The restaurant opened in 2018 and cracked the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list for the first time.

Ashley Moss is Fyn’s head chef and Jennifer Hugé is the general manager of the restaurant. Celebrating their position on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, Fyn shared the news with their Instagram followers.

“We can’t wait to welcome you all to Fyn.”

LA COLOMBE AND WOLFGAT ALSO MAKE THE LIST

La Colombe, a french restaurant situated in Constantia Nek, Cape Town, is ranked in 56th place. This ranking is down from its number 36 ranking in 2021.

“We are thrilled to be ranked among the world’s best. Thank you, not only to the judges, but to every diner who has visited and supported us over the past year – we’ll be raising a glass to all of you this evening,” wrote the restaurant on Instagram.

Wolfgat in Paternoster scored the 90th position. Last year the restaurant achieved the 50th position.
