The Wonderbag is a simple cooking device that not only makes ‘cooking without gas’ a reality, but is also changing the world meal by meal.

Based on heat-retention technology, food is brought to the boil and then placed into the Wonderbag – a cloth, bag-like device that seals in heat – where it continues to cook for up to 12 hours without the use of electricity or fuel.

Wonderbag’s ingenious design means that the risk of smoke-related disease, as well as the hazards of cooking over an open fire, are reduced. The reduction in the use of wood-based fuels also means that fewer trees are being chopped down, which is all good news for the climate and promotes more sustainable living. Cooking time is also lessened which means that women are not housebound, enabling young girls to get back into school, as well as giving women the freedom to join the workforce and earn money for their families.

Wonderbag founder, Sarah Collins, believes in creating culturally relevant technology to solve today’s problems. She has become synonymous with sustainable futures and desires to create a positive social impact within communities. “People often ask me who inspires me. For me, it’s the women of Africa. If we can empower them with dignity and freedom, they can give back to the children that are going to change the world as the next generation. Empowering women empowers the world,” explains Collins.

In the last five years, more than 1 000 000 Wonderbags have been sold or donated throughout Africa, Europe, the Middle East and North America. In Norway, the Wonderbag is considered a kitchen must-have, and even celebrities across the world have recognised the value of the Wonderbag.

The Wonderbag is available for purchase worldwide, and for every Wonderbag that is sold, a portion of the proceeds is put towards donating a Wonderbag to a family in need within a community in a developing country.
