Elon Musk is paving the way for commercial space flight, and SpaceX recently announced its first all-civilian space flight mission. The second crew members had just been announced.

SpaceX Inspiration4 mission: What we know

SpaceX’s Inspiration4 mission it the “world’s first all-commercial astronaut mission to orbit”. SpaceX announced earlier this month:

“Jared Isaacman, founder and CEO of Shift4 Payments, is donating the three seats alongside him aboard Dragon to individuals from the general public who will be announced in the weeks ahead. Learn more on how to potentially join this historic journey to space by visiting”.

The targeted launch date will be set during the fourth quarter of 2021, and liftoff will take place from the historic Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, United States.

Isaacman told reporters the mission kicks off the biggest fundraiser ever for St. Jude, a children’s hospital with an already massive fundraising reach.

“If we’re going to continue making advances up there in space, then we have an obligation to do the same down here on Earth”.

The space flight company confirmed that the “multi-day journey” will take passengers around Earth “every 90 minutes along a customised flight path, will be carefully monitored at every step by SpaceX mission control”.

Crew members

Isaacman announced that Hayley Arceneaux will join Jared Isaacman on the first all-civilian trip to space. Arceneaux will orbit Earth for up to five days in the Crew Dragon capsule as part of the Inspiration4 mission.

“[Hayley Arceneaux] is an amazing person and I know she will be an inspiration to people all over the [world]. Not just those [with] dreams of going to [space], but to all people who need hope when encountering life challenges. Hayley, welcome to @inspiration4x“.

According to SpaceX, crew members will be selected based on “mission pillars of leadership, hope, generosity and prosperity”, and they believe that Arceneaux “will represent hope”.

Arceneaux – a physician assistant at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – was diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of 10, and will become the first person with a prosthetic body part to go to space.

At 29 years of age, Arceneaux could also be the youngest American to go to space. A third and fourth member for the flight will be announced in due course.
