SA’s biggest Black Friday spenders: One shopper blew R695k!

While many South Africans were complaining about phoney Black Friday deals others were blowing big bucks. Here are SA’s biggest spenders!

On 26 November this year, South Africans had another Black Friday. While many headed online to complain that the biggest shopping day of the year wasn’t really as big as they hoped, others were proving that they had big money to blow. South African banks have just revealed how much was spent by some customers on the world’s biggest shopping day.

Money to blow: SA banks reveal one local shopper spent R695k on Black Friday

For many South Africans, Black Friday was just another day. This is because, despite things going on special and selling at big bargains, not many had money to spend.

For other people, however, it was the perfect day to blow hundreds of thousands on household items and other products they could get at a cheaper price.

South African banks have reported that there was an increase in spending or 2021 compared to 2020. In fact, one Nedbank customer reportedly spent R697 236.15 on Black Friday goodies.

A Discovery bank customer bought a total of 70 products on the day.

Another Discovery Bank customer came in second on the big spender list after paying R614 000 in a single transaction. While a First National Bank came in third and paid R500 000. Absa and Standard Bank customers came in fourth and fifth spending R456 512 and R450 010 respectively, My Broadband reports.

Sales increase

Business Insider reports that FNB customers spent 15% more on Black Friday this year than they did last year. According to the bank, it processed over R2 billion transactions on the day.

Nedbank however, saw an even bigger increase as customers spent 25% more this year. Not far behind is Absa whose customers spent 20% more this Black Friday.
