SABC 1’s popular soapie, Uzalo has rubbished claims that actress and politician, Gugu Gumede, who plays the character of MaMlambo on the show is exiting the soapie.

Rumours of the actress’s exit began when she addressed the National Freedom Party’s (NFP) supporters this month (9 October) at the party’s manifesto launch.

The actress vowed to serve her late mother, Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi’s political party, the National Freedom Party (NFP).

She also told the crowd in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal to not view her as the character she portrays on the SABC 1 soapie, but as a dedicated member of the NFP.

UZALO’ SPEAKS UP

The show’s publicist, Nomfuno Zondi has cleared rumours of the actress exiting the show.

Zondi told Daily Sun that the actress is still an important member of the cast.

“Her character of MaMlambo is essential to delivering the much-loved twists and excitement in the Uzalo story.”

There were also rumours that NFP’s leaders were plotting to block Gumede from becoming the leader of her mother’s party.

A voice note of a man stating that the party didn’t belong to one family also did the rounds on social media.

Viewers of the show were also convinced Gumede’s character, MaMlambo was exiting the show when she recently got arrested for stealing Hlelo’s (Nothando Ngcobo) newborn baby.

The actress declined to comment on the rumours of her exit when she was contacted by the publication.

Gumede said that people must continue with their speculations, and she will not comment about the matter.
