Royal Wedding: Who will be Meghan Markle’s maid of honour?

Who will take the role of maid of honour when Meghan Markle marries Prince Harry? Well, we don’t know exactly, but what we do know with almost certainty is that it won’t be the Duchess of Camrbidge.

As the big day draws near, everyone who loves the royal family is paying close attention to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s big day.

And, as with all things wedding related, a lot of the interest is to do with all things involving the ceremony. From who is going to design Meghan’s dress to who will be walking her down the aisle… there’s a lot of excitement for those of us who love all things royal.

A big question that hasn’t been answered yet is who is going to Meghan Markle’s maid of honour when she marries Prince Harry on 19 May 2018.

Now, you might think since Meghan and Kate Middleton have been getting to know each other the Duchess of Cambridge might be considered for the job… but that’s not the case.

According to reports, Meghan will choose “from her closest friends” with some speculating that it could be Jessica Mulroney, her best friend who helped her and Harry hide from paparazzi when news of their romance first made news in 2016.

It’s no surprise that it’s not the Duchess, though, so don’t think there’s a family fued brewing. The two have only known each other for about a year and even the Duchess chose somebody from her own circle (her own sister) as her maid of honour when she married Prince William back in 2011.

The two are also “quite different people and that have quite different interests,” royal expert Kate Nicholl told InStyle this month.

Markle is described as “quite independent,” “very confident,” and “keen to establish her own network of friends” in London.

“So that’s certainly not to say she’s snubbed Kate in any way,” Nicholl added. “I think they do spend time together. But I think Meghan’s keen not to rely too much on Kate and to have her own friends as well.”

Oh and even if she does surprise everyone and it is Kate, “maid of honour” is reserved for single women. If Middleton did end up taking the role, she would be Markle’s “matron of honour.”

But that’s extremely unlikely. Kate wasn’t even matron of honour at her own sister’s wedding.

It was reported as far back as January that Meghan has chosen her maid of honour – but who that’s going to be we’ll have to wait to find out.
