AN EIGHT-METER LONG BOAT MADE ALMOST ENTIRELY OF CHOCOLATE COMPLETES MAIDEN VOYAGE

On 17 April, more than 40 bakers, chefs, and boat builders in Spain, set of to build a row boat made almost entirely of chocolate. About 1 500kg of chocolate was needed to melt and cast the boat. The end result, a row boat of eight-meters weighed in at 1 700kg, Maroela Media reports.

On 1 June, two volunteer confectioners boarded the boat for the first time. According to local media reports, onlookers cheered as the team and confectioners got the chocolaty boat into the ocean. The crowd held their breath as everyone waited to see if the chocolate would react well with the salt water and float.

According to reports the boat departed from Pasaia harbor in Gipuzkoa, a province of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country in Spain. After 30 minutes, at sea it rowed into the harbor. And without a single leak at that.

A REPLICA OF OLF WHALING BOAT

One of the project’s promoters, local baker Lorena Gomez said that the boat’s keel, upper part, and seats were all made of wood. The rest of the boat, including the base, was made of chocolate.

Two wooden boats were put on standby in case anything went wrong.

The eight-meter-long chocolate rowboat is a replica of an old whaling boat built in the Spanish city in the 16th century. The original boat sank off the coast of Canada after crossing the Atlantic Ocean, Maroela Media reports.
