El president was addressing folks at the launch of the KZN government’s Operation Vula, which is intended to transform the province’s economy into one that benefits its black population. Problem is, the ANC’s KZN government would need to first develop and economy before transforming it, and right now the party’s provincial leadership is far too happy playing at politics than thinking of the people.

Shimmying into the packed venue, the crowd gave Zuma a warm welcome deserving of his tireless work in uplifting the lives of ordinary South Africans. Heck, he even apologised for arriving late, before starting his light-hearted address in Zulu.

After thanking those involved in the project the president jested that when his term expires in 2019 he will be taking up farming.

 “I am also going to start farming when I retire in two years’ time. I have already bought boots and overalls‚” Zuma joked.

While the mood was rather jovial at the launch of Operation Vula, which is aimed at uplifting rural black people, women, people with disabilities and the youth; elsewhere things are a little more serious.

On Friday the ANC kicks off its national policy conference and all ANC branches are set to bring their A-game to the table in the run-up to the party’s elective conference in December.
