A young waitress’ happiness quickly turned to disappointment after she was told that she had to share her $4400 (R69.9k) tip with other staff at the restaurant where she worked. The Arkansas waitress was given the large tip by a group of good samaritans who wanted to help restaurant staff who suffered during the global COVID-19 lockdowns.

After refusing to share the large tip, she was fired from her job. But things took a turn for the best soon after.

Real estate company owner Grant Wise and a group of other people decided to start something called the “$100 Dinner Club”. The group of do-gooders visits restaurants and each tips their waiter $100 dollars to make up for the harsh lockdowns that affected many restaurants.

Ryan Brandt, a waiter at Oven and Tap in Arkansas, was left in tears after serving the group who ended up tipping her and another waiter $4400 (over R69k).

Her tears of joy quickly turned to tears of dismay, however. This after she was told that she would only get a small percentage of the money that was to be split between her and the rest of the staff at the restaurant.

“I was told that I was going to be giving my cash over to my shift manager and I would be taking home 20 percent,” Brandt told Fox news. She also added that she initially planned on using the money to pay her student loans.

An unfair dismissal leads to bigger blessings

According to her, in all three years of working at the restaurant, tips were never shared. After presenting this argument to her employee, she was fired from the establishment for “violating the company’s rules.”

Wise, who says that he called into the restaurant to ask about its tip policy and was told that it was a no sharing establishment, was dismayed to hear that she had been fired for refusing to share.

He then took to Facebook to share the story with his followers. He also started a GoFundMe campaign and raised over R138 000 for Ryan who was left jobless after the experience.

He then shared that Ryan had got a new job and started on the 8 December this year, Daily Mail reports.
