A young bride has been left fuming after her mother-in-law turned her wedding into a day of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II whose funeral coincided with the wedding date. According to the bride, who took to Reddit to vent about the situation, her wedding turned into a mini place of mourning because of her mother in law who not only insisted on wearing black to mourn the queen but also turned it me of the spots at the wedding venue into a room for herself and other guests to watch a live stream of the Queen’s funeral.

Bride dismayed after MIL turns her wedding into Queen’s memorial

A young bride’s special day was completely ruined after her mother-in-law insisted on turning it into a mourning ceremony for the Queen whose funeral was on the same day.

Taking to Reddit, the young bride explained how her mother-in-law, Jane, initially asked her to postpone the wedding after hearing that the funeral would be held on that date.

After refusing to postpone the wedding, the mother in law decided she would still use the day to mourn the Queen – while at the wedding.

The frustrated bride, who goes by the username u/taqueenwedding, recalled: “Around 70% of Matt’s guests were wearing black. I was pissed off, but ultimately I could ignore it. I found out when I was greeting guests later that Jane had told Matt’s side to wear black at our request to honour Elizabeth.

“At the reception, a bunch of our guests started to go missing quite early on, so my maid of honour went to look for them and came back to get me. They were in a different room with a TV that was playing the queue footage and holding a ‘prayer circle’ where they were sharing their ‘memories’. Lots of them were crying.”

Reaching a breaking point

After seeing this, the young bride politely requested that the mourners join her and her new husband for their first dance but Jane said no, arguing that they were “celebrating a great woman’s life” – making the bride feel unimportant.

The bride explains how she could no longer hold in her anger and promptly told her MIL that she “was being f****** selfish and ruining her son’s wedding day for someone she’d never even met”.

Full of guilt she wondered whether she has taken things too far but many Redditors didn’t think so.

“She used this as an opportunity to ruin the wedding and play the victim. Plus the funeral is tomorrow, do you wear black leading up to a loved one’s funeral? No. I could understand a few minutes if you got married the day of the funeral if you are a hardcore royalist, but not this,” one Redditor wrote.
