Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, had their son on 9 February. The princess has shared the little one’s name along with some pictures on him on her Instagram account.

FIRST LOOK AT PRINCESS EUGENIE’S BABY BOY

In a lengthy Instagram post, the royal couple introduced their baby boy to the world as August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.

“We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank,⁣” Princess Eugenie wrote.

“Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can’t express. We are excited to be able to share these photos with you.”

She also thanked essential workers for their contribution and her midwife who had taken the picture of the couple with their first child.

THE MEANING BEHIND THE NAME

The baby is named after his ancestors.

Princess Eugenie explained the significance of her son’s name over her Instagram stories. The reveal was perfectly timed on his grandfather Prince Philip’s birthday weekend. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was admitted to hospital last week and is still under observation.

“On his grandfather’s birthday weekend, thinking of my grandfather, we are introducing our little boy,” Princess Eugenie said via her Instagram story.

“He is named after his great grandfather and both of his great x5 grandfathers. August Philip Hawke Brooksbank,” she continued.

August was one of the names of Prince Albert, who was husband to Queen Victoria. Philip is Princess Eugenie’s grandfather’s name and “Hawke” is believed to be a Brooksbank family name.

WILL PRINCESS EUGENIE’S SON RECEIVE A ROYAL TITLE?

Princess Eugenie is the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth and the daughter of the Duke of York, Prince Andrew, and the Duchess of York, Andrew’s former wife, Sarah Ferguson

By giving birth to August, Eugenie has made Queen Elizabeth a nine-time great-grandmother. Though his mother is a princess, the infant does not currently hold a royal title. However he may be given one if the queen decides to do so.

This was previously done back in 2012, when the queen issued a decree to grant Prince William’s children the titles of prince and princess.

Although he does not hold a royal title yet, the latest addition to the royal family is now eleventh in line to the British throne after his mother, Princess Eugenie, in tenth place. Eugenie follows her older sister, Princess Beatrice, in the line of succession.

However, they will move down a spot once Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcome their second child.
