As non-essential shops start reopening in parts of the United Kingdom, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited two independent businesses to hear how they have been impacted by the world’s recent health pandemic and how they are returning to a new normal.

Back to work

The royal family shared details of Prince William’s visit to Smiths the Bakers, who have been serving Kings Lynn for 50 years, while Kate Middleton visited Fakenham Garden Centre, where she met the centre’s owners, before speaking to staff members. This was Kate’s first public appearance since the lockdown in the UK.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s visits come as Queen Elizabeth II, Patron of the British Chambers of Commerce, sent a message of support to business communities as they continue to reopen.

“As many organisations around the country are reopening, I send my warmest best wishes and support to business communities throughout the United Kingdom, Commonwealth and across the world,” the Queen said. “At a time of great difficulty for many, it is heart-warming to see the civic response and generosity of so many businesses, small and large, to the challenges posed, whether supporting the health sector or vulnerable communities.”

VENTURING OUT FOR A VISIT

Prince William, as well as his father, Prince Charles, and Charles’s wife, Duchess Camilla, all made their first physical royal appearances since the start of the pandemic earlier in June. The Duke of Cambridge, who’s been in lockdown in place per government orders with his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, at their Anmer Hall home, ventured out for a visit to the King’s Lynn Ambulance Station at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

During his visit, he listened to emergency personnel detail the work that has been carried out over the last few weeks. The crew also shared with the duke the support they’ve received from members of the public, local businesses, and volunteering networks as they’ve worked to keep their citizens safe.
