Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting a child, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed on Sunday, 14 February 2021. 

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting again

This comes exactly after 36 years of Princess Diana’s announcement that she is expecting her second child, Prince Harry.

“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,” the spokesperson said in a statement according to HuffPost.

This will be the second child for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who welcomed their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, in May 2019. Archie is currently seventh in line to the throne, but does not have a title.

Photographer Misan Harriman, a longtime friend of the royal couple, remotely took the photo below ― on an iPad! ― to celebrate the family’s newest addition.

Harriman tweeted out the photo, saying: “Meg, I was there at your wedding to witness this love story begin, and my friend, I am honoured to capture it grow,” the Vogue contributing photographer wrote. “Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on this joyous news!” 

An extra special baby announcement

According to an archived Daily Express newspaper from the time, Princess Diana’s pregnancy was made public in a statement from Buckingham palace that said Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were “delighted” by the news, adding that Diana, who was then 22, had “no preference whether it is a boy or girl.”

One headline said it would be “Double the Fun and Double the Mischief” alongside a photo of Prince William, who was 20 months old at the time of the announcement. Diana and Prince Charles welcomed second son Harry on 15 September 1984.
