The new year is almost upon us. As we reflect on the past year and everything we’ve been through, we naturally want the next year to be full of happiness, prosperity, and love. In light of this, we have compiled some traditions from across the world that you can try this New Year’s Day to make sure you have nothing but good luck.

Wear all white

This tradition is one straight from Brazil. Every year thousands of Brazilians dress up in all white on New Year’s Day so that they can go into the new year with some good luck.

The tradition has become so popular that around the world people have started having all white New Year’s Day parties in the name of having good luck!

New Year’s Day: Jump into the new year

In Denmark, people all simultaneously jump when the clock strikes 12. In essence, they are all “jumping” into the new year.

It’s very simple, all you need to do is get onto a chair or sofa and jump off at midnight. Many Danes believe that if you forget to jump into the new year, you will have bad luck year-round.

Wear the right colour underwear

In Latin America, Latin people choose their underwear colour according to what they are looking forward to in the new year. Yellow for luck, red for love, and white for peace.

Being born on the first

People around the world believe that being born on the first of January will literally bring you good luck for the entire year. So basically, babes born on the first start their first year of life off on the best foot.

Throw water out of a window

In Puerto Rico, people believe that throwing a bucket of water out of their windows will bring them some luck. Many of them keep a bucket of water by the window before midnight so that they can throw the water as soon as the new year strike.
