September is earmarked for Heart Awareness Month; this month is dedicated to raising awareness about heart disease and the various risk factors in South Africa. It is now during this time to reinforce the consciousness and knowledge of heart disease and the cardiovascular system. B-well foods has launched the Happy Heart Cookbook, a guide to lowering cholesterol and hypertension for all South Africans.

‘All you need is love’ this phrase is easily recognised from the Beatles hit single in 1967 which still resonates in all aspects of our lives today exactly 53 years later. Creating a family home of cooking memories filled with love and gratitude is part of the B-well legacy and in turn, led to the idea behind the Happy Heart Cookbook.

The Happy Heart Cookbook was designed to focus on lowering the cardiovascular system which relates to your heart. CVD which includes heart disease and stroke is the leading cause of death with an estimated account of 43% of total adult deaths in South Africa.

While navigating through the new normal some might feel overwhelmed by all the cooking information and skills available to us. The Happy Heart Cookbook is a simple aid to help clear the clutter and aid you in becoming confident through your cooking methods and food choices in lowering hypertension and cholesterol. According to The Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa, more South Africans die of Cardiovascular Disease than of all cancers combined. Therefore, what we put into our bodies, the foods we choose, are important to maintain a healthy balanced diet. The book covers a collection of recipes that can be used for breakfast, lunch, dinner as well as snacks and treats, with a vegetarian/vegan option included. Each recipe is made from canola oil-based products that are cholesterol-free, free from genetically modified hormones, and dairy-free.

Studies have reported that when families prepare meals at home, they generally eat healthier as there was an increase in vegetables and fruit and a low consumption of processed foods. Food plays a vital role in all our lives and making healthy choices leads to balanced nutrition in meals that are delicious and easy to prepare. B-well’s products are built on the ethos that everyone should be able to eat delicious food that’s healthier and more affordable, and this new book is a prime example of the brand’s passion for encouraging consumers to lead a healthy lifestyle.
