The learners were caught in the act when, according to the Daily Sun, the district officials in Ekurhuleni and members of a “community policing forum” conducted a surprise search at Elsburg Secondary School near Germiston this week.

What they had found in the children’s bags were bottles of whisky, brandy, gin and beer – all ready to be sold on the premises.

In addition to the alcohol, several dangerous weapons were found as well.

Community leader Zola Nongogo expressed her concern at the situation.

“Our children are turning into drunkards,” she warned.

“We can’t afford to have pupils drinking at school. Their future is at stake,” Nongog added.

Mzansi had a lot to say via Facebook comments.
