AMAPIANO ON TIKTOK

According to the popular social networking app, #Amapiano is the most popular music hashtag on TikTok in South Africa. The hashtag has over 1.3 billion views to date.

TikTok’s music operations manager, Yuvir Pillay says music remains a special part of TikTok’s creative DNA as they aim to change the way people consume music.

“As a springboard for songs and artists, TikTok breathes new life into catalogue tracks and also provides a fresh platform for emerging and established musicians alike to reach new fans.”

“When it comes to amapiano, it is so great to see TikTok’s global community embracing African music. Over the last few years, amapiano has grown substantially on the platform and we look forward to seeing it grow even more in future,” said Pillay.

AMAPIANO MUSIC FESTIVAL

TikTok’s first-ever Amapiano Music Festival will feature the likes of DJ Maphorisa, DBN Gogo and Mr JazziQ. Other stars who will also appear are Isiphitiphiti hitmaker Pabi Cooper, Lady Du and Khanyisa Jaceni, who will host the event.

Jaceni who has released amapiano music herself, expressed her excitement about being a part of the festival because she gets to do it with artists she has always looked up to.

“Music has always been a passion of mine and through TikTok, I have been able to share that passion with the world. TikTok has most certainly been the launchpad for my music career – I don’t think I’d be where I am today without it.”

“I would encourage aspiring musicians to get on the platform and share their sounds with the world- you never know what could happen,” said the 25-year-old creator.

The Amapiano Music Festival will take place on Wednesday 10 November and TikTok users will be able to tune in on the app
