Life-size Mshoza ‘on top of the world’: Kwaito star’s tombstone unveiled
Nomasonto Maswanganyi, popularly known as Mshoza, was presented with a tombstone and a signature Rasta portrait during her funeral service.

After Nomasonto Maswanganyi, popularly known as Mshoza, died on Wednesday 18 November from what has now been confirmed by her manager as complications from diabetes, the kwaito star’s family went on to hold a special funeral service for her.
The so-called “First Lady of Kwaito”, who has two children, was diagnosed with the disease in 2014 when she was hospitalised due to experiencing severe diabetes-related symptoms.
Now, the 37-year-old was accompanied to her final resting place over the past the weekend (25 November) by close friends and family, as fans attended the sombre event virtually, reported Times Live. At the service, her tombstone was also unveiled.
Mshoza’s tombstone
It is said that Mshoza’s tombstone has a life-size picture of the star stepping on planet Earth. Her family used one of Mshoza’s most popular pictures where she wore a white-and-gold matching set and completed the look with white Converse All-stars.
The stone symbolises that Mshoza was literally on top of the world.
A special tribute
Mshoza’s youngest daughter Pride said a final goodbye to her mother at the service.
“Mommy, I am at a loss of words, I wasn’t ready to lose you. I don’t know how I am going to make it without you … But I know it’s God’s plan. I love you mama, I know you are watching over us,” Pride wrote.
Rasta pays tribute to Mshoza
Lebani Sirenje, also known as Rasta, also showed up at the West Park cemetery to pay tribute to Mshoza through his artistic creativity. The drawing, based on Mshoza’s picture in white, was the second attempt for the ‘controversial funeral artist’. His first attempt also didn’t go down so well with Mshoza’s fans.
STARS MOURN ONE OF THEIR OWN
Other artists, like Pearl Thusi, shared a snippet of an interview she had done with Mshoza for BET’s Behind The Story on 20 November, in which Mshoza had opened up about how difficult it had been for her to deal with the death of another music legend Lebo Mathosa 14 years ago. The video post is titled “Rest in Power baby girl”, and in it Thusi thanks Mshoza for her “beautiful energy, vulnerability and honesty”.
