Living and working in the UK on an EU passport for a solid decade already? Find out how to qualify for permanent residency
I have an EU passport and have been living in the UK for almost 10 years. I have been working sporadically during this time. When will I qualify for British citizenship?
As an EU citizen you will automatically hold permanent residence upon completion of 5 years residence in the UK, provided you have exercised your EU Treaty rights for at least 5 years continuously. This can take the form of employment, self-employment, studying or being self sufficient.
If you then wait a further 12 months (during which time you are deemed to be free of immigration restrictions in the UK) you should qualify for British citizenship.
