Question:

I am currently in the UK on a Tier 4 Student visa and will be finishing my studies next year. My boyfriend ( a British citizen) and I are then planning to get married, in order for me to be able to stay on in the UK.

We are however very concerned whether we will be able to meet the financial requirements for the spouse visa, as we heard these are very strict. Can you please inform us what the exact requirements are in this regard?

Answer:

In order to qualify to apply for the spouse visa, a minimum income threshold of £18,600 is required for it to be possible to sponsor the settlement of a spouse.

In cases where the application is done from within the UK, such as yours, the £18,600 can fortunately be made up from the income of both parties, and it should thus be easier for the couple to fulfill the criteria.
