Real-life moving mishaps that’

Moving takes courage, money, and a lot of common sense, it seems.

Always check the appliances

A family decided to move long distance within South Africa but required some storage of their belongings while they found a new home.

A moving company assisted with their request and transported all of their goods into the container and into their storage facility.

After a few weeks, the storage warehouse personnel noticed a terrible odour coming from one of the storage units. When it was discovered which unit it was coming from, the storage company contacted the client to ask if they could access the goods to see what was causing the smell.

The client gave permission to the company, and before long, it was discovered what had been causing the stench.

The client had forgotten to clear out their freezer.

Be honest

A South African moving company had a container consigned to them by a European agent. The container was packed by the client in the UK and the company handled the clearance.

The goods were destined for Knysna, so it was agreed that the contents would be unloaded at the moving company’s warehouse. The usual, and expected, household items were all present, but hidden behind the wardrobes and large pieces of furniture was a Maserati Corsa.

The client had thought that by not declaring this item, he could sneak his car into South Africa without registration.

Needless to say, the company contacted the authorities and the fraudulently imported vehicle was handed over so that further action could be taken.

Naughty naughty.
