How British are you… really?

How British are you… really?

Think you’ve got a lot of Brit in ya? Well, if you do, then getting your UK citizenship might be easier than you think… if you know the right people of course.

How British are you… really?

Since the decolonisation of the British Empire, certain legal loopholes have opened up, allowing South Africans to become Brits. (Although, let’s face it, you’ll never really be a Brit.)

The folks over at Philip Gamble & Partners gave us five key point to consider. If any of these apply to you, you may be eligible for the big red book:

•  Born to a mother who was born in the UK before 1983.

•  Born before 1983 who has a parent born after 1949 – as long as that parent a) was British, or b) had a parent born in the UK.

•  Born in South Africa after 31 May 1962 but before 1983, with a UK-born grandparent.

•  Born after 1948, where the parents were married before 1949 and with a Paternal Grandfather born in the UK.

•  Born between 2 March 1970 and 18 April 1980 in (Southern) Rhodesia, with a grandfather born in the UK.

Tick these boxes? Well then you might be eligible for UK citizenship. Pretty neat huh?
