Missy Elliot will be honoured with a Vanguard Award at VMAs 2019
Missy is also inducted as the first female rapper into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame 2019.

The 2019 MTV Video Music Awards will be aired on 26 August, and Missy Elliot will be this year’s honouree for the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award recipient.
Elliot gets emotional with all the love sent her way
This comes in after social media campaigns and petitions soldiered for this iconic moment. Missy took her gratitude to Twitter and said:
“I am humbly grateful to be receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, I thank my fans ‘Supafriends’ who fought diligently to see this day come. I am crying happy tears. Thank you, God.”

What is the award all about?
The Vanguard Award is allocated for artists who have created iconic music videos that have been featured on the MTV network. Other artists who have received this award include Rihanna, Pink, Kanye West, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, and Guns N’ Roses.
Pepsi and MTV have partnered up to create a fan event two days before the award show. The duo will host a fan pop-up museum in New York City, and the event will further highlight Missy’s evolution in hip-hop and give fans a chance to insert themselves in Missy Elliot themed costumes and music videos.

The five-time Grammy award-winning songwriter, rapper and producer recently became the first female in history to be inducted into the 50th annual Songwriters Hall of Fame 2019. Elliott happens to be the third rapper to be inducted into this wall of fame, joining colleagues Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri.
Not only did Queen Latifah present her with the award, but Missy also received a shout-out from Michelle Obama in a recorded video that aired during the event.
“Missy, I want to thank you for all of your trailblazing ways. Thank you not for just sharing your gift with the world, but for being an advocate for so many people out there, especially young girls who are still figuring out how to make their voices heard.”

Missy Elliot will also perform at the Video Music Awards 2019
Missy won’t just be attending the VMAs, the rapper will also perform live on 26 August, and this will mark as her first performance at the award show in over a decade.
“Missy Elliott has a long, prosperous history with the VMAs. She’s won seven Moon Person trophies, including Video of the Year in 2003 for ‘Work It’ and Best Hip-Hop Video in 2005 for ‘Lose Control’.
She’s also hit the VMA stage three times before, including a medley of ‘Get Ur Freak On’ and ‘One Minute Man’ in 2001, and an appearance in 2006 during which she recreated her ‘The Rain’ look in tribute to longtime collaborator Hype Williams, who received that year’s Vanguard Award.”
