Miss SA: Sasha-Lee Olivier ‘humbled and excited’ to take over reins
Thrilling times are ahead for the passionate activist beauty who aims to use her crown to make a positive impact on society.

Fresh from finishing in the top 40 of the Miss World pageant, Sasha-Lee Olivier will now take up her official duties as Miss South Africa from Zozibini Tunzi who was crowned Miss Universe in December 2019.
Olivier was awarded her crown and sash on Wednesday 15 January. The 26-year-old beauty enthusiastically shared the news on her Instagram page, writing that she was excited and humbled to be taking over from Tunzi, who is now based in New York.
“I cannot wait to see what is in store and to continue the great work we started in 2019!” she wrote.

Tunzi wished Olivier well, saying she was the right person to continue where she had left off.
“I cannot think of anyone who is more suitable to be Miss South Africa. Sasha has it all: beauty, brains and above all, a commitment to help others. I have no doubt she will use her reign to help improve the lot of those in need,” Tunzi told The Sowetan.
Crowdfunding campaign for comfort kits
A double marketing and psychology major at Wits University, Olivier has been using her voice and position to help victims of sexual assault and abuse.
As a rape survivor herself, she has started a crowdfunding campaign to raise R1.2 million for rape comfort kits which can be distributed at police stations, hospitals and rape crisis centres. So far R10 000 has been donated by various individuals and companies.
“I am fully aware of the limited access to rape kits, but I am determined to assist women on an emotional level as this is one of the things that I wished for more than anything when I was reporting my case.
“It is the main reason why I have decided to distribute the comfort packs, it is the reason for my #ItsNotYourFault campaign,” she said.
The Alberton-born beauty is also the founder of the Blue Jersey Foundation through which small companies can direct some of their profits towards socially uplifting projects.
