WHAT IS A SHISA NYAMA?

A shisa nyama is a simple concept. The name translates from Zulu into “Buy and Braai”.

According to Food24, shisa nyamas were a way for township butcheries to boost their weekend sales. Since then, shisa nyamas have grown into so much more than just meat.

These days, you can get your car washed, grab a beer or listen to some of your favourite tunes while you braai some meat. You can even watch a soccer match with some buddies.

HINDS SPICES CHESA CHAMPION

In November 2021, Hinds Spices selected 10 restaurants to compete for the first-ever Chesa Champion title. The local spice brand encouraged their consumers to vote for their favourite braai spot.

“The aim of the campaign was to discover Mzansi’s best Shisa Nyama and give them an opportunity to showcase their flavours in partnership with Hinds Spices and claim the title of Hinds Spices Chesa Champion,” said Hinds Spices brand manager Shevani Singh.

The campaign ran for two months with activations that allowed consumers to dig into the authentic South African dishes made with Hinds Spices.
