Mandela Day: What you can do if you live in the UK

Mandela Day is an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on his birthday. If you’re in the UK, here’s how you can help.

Mandela Day is not meant as a public holiday, but as a day to remember the legacy of Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s former president, and his values, through volunteering and community service. People around the world commit to volunteering for 67 minutes in an effort to recognise his 67-year legacy of fighting for social justice.

Mandela Day 2020

This Mandela Day, things look a little different. COVID-19 has restricted much of the world’s coming and going.

With schools and businesses operating under strict protocols, it has become very difficult to engage in the traditional 67 minutes of service. But now is not the time to stop helping as the world’s most vulnerable populations need our support more than ever.

Thembalitsha UK

This July, Thembalitsha UK invites South Africans living in the UK to continue to honour Madiba’s legacy on Mandela Day by helping them raise 670 GBP in support of Thembalithsha Foundation’s work in South Africa.

Donate today at www.justgiving.com/campaign/thembalitshamandeladay2020 to support this great effort.

Serving nearly 1,000 beneficiaries each month, Thembalitsha’s projects need your support now more than ever. This Mandela Day, your gift will help them face the many challenges brought on by the recent pandemic.

Thembalitsha UK’s mission is to raise and channel funds to the amazing work of the Thembalitsha Foundation in South Africa by developing people to the point of self-reliance through the provision of services in education, healthcare and training.
