Four luxury, triple-sized units were recently delivered to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA for staff caring for animals around the clock during the 21-day national lockdown.

This comes after the SPCA appealed to the public for any caravan donations, so the team, consisting of 23 people, could “sleep with a measure of comfort and privacy while on site”.

“A total of 23 of our most experienced staff, including a qualified veterinarian, are giving up their home comforts and leaving their families to ensure that our animals on-site are well cared for and to ensure that sick and critically injured animals can still be assisted to at this time,” the Cape of Good Hope SPCA initially posted on Facebook.

A production manager in the film industry, Calvin Hayward, saw the post and reached out to the public to help the SPCA. That’s when Fleet Star, a company that provides mobile accommodation to the film industry, decided to step in and help.

Caring for animals

This past Thursday, they took four triple-sized units to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA for their lockdown staff to have a place to stay as they care for animals around the clock.

Film industry at a standstill

It is said that the film industry had effectively come to a standstill even before South Africa’s lockdown was announced due to social distancing. Fleet Star marketing manager Martin Offersen later told Cape Talk’s Refilwe Moloto he and his team were more than happy to help.

“From your Vin Diesels to your bottom-class actors, these trailers are all for the international cast of movies – Netflix, BBC and more – and we supply these trailers for the stars to relax in when they are not on set. They are very luxurious and smart inside so they were very happy with them.”

Fleet Star has a big range of trailers.

“With 75 units available for actors, celebrities and crew, Fleet Star is uniquely positioned to provide the best possible solution for your on-set accommodation needs at an affordable price. Our fleet is meticulously maintained and regularly upgraded to ensure we meet the exacting demands of clients who expect nothing but the best.”

The triple-sized units delivered to the SPCA each includes a bed, bathroom, dressing table and, of course, an aircon (among many other features).

The trailers are said to be very luxurious.

“You name the actor…they’ve probably been in one of the trailers before.”

In good spirits

The Cape of Good Hope SPCA said that their staff are in good spirits when day five of the 21-day national lockdown came around.

“We were imagining rows of mattresses and sleeping bags on our lecture room floor but thank goodness for Fleet Star Film Trailers & Vehicles who stepped forward to sponsor some wonderful caravan style dwellings to give our staff a measure of comfort and privacy at this time,” the SPCA later posted.
