The organizer’s behind the recent visits of RuPaul’s Drag Race Queens have once again provided a platform for local queens to perform alongside international stars.

The hope is that the visits of recognizable faces from the Television phenomenom will help the local queer performing arts scene draw in new fans and patrons, and stimulate a diverse and successful scene that remains distinctly South African.

MVT Productions, who are responsible for the Cape Town leg of Detox’s South African club tour have responded to requests for a larger venue taking the performance to community affirming venue, the Joseph Stone Auditorium, in Athlone.

A popular venue for LGBTQ events, Joseph Stone is easily accessible from the highway and recently played host to the Miss Cape Town Pride Pageant.

Local queens given a platform

Cape Town drag stalwarts Manila von Teez, Kat Gilardi and Vida Fantabisher will share the stage with the international drag phenom Detox.

Manila is one of the most influential queens in the Cape Town scene and indeed South Africa as a whole. The South Africa’s Got Talent runner-up always serves a look and delivers a great show.

Kat Gilardi of 3D and Five Roses fame is a seasoned drag performer who has graced thousands of stages across South Africa. The Cabaret queen is also a former Miss Gay Western Cape.
