Seeing that people continue to be infected and are losing their lives because of the spread of the coronavirus, a local quick-thinking artist is using his music and singing talent to warn people about the pandemic.

Who is DJ Godzilla?

Tovhowani Lazarus Molea of Musina in Limpopo famously known as DJ Godzilla has composed, recorded and released a song titled CoronaVirus last week. The song is already dominating the airwaves on local community radio, Musina FM.

A renowned self-taught sound engineer who worked in various recording studios in Gauteng, DJ Godzilla recorded the song in his own studio, G Records, in Musina.

He explains the driving force behind recording the song.

He said, “Depending on what you do, we all have a role to play in the fight against this pandemic. Politicians will use their political power while pastors will use the word of God. As an artist, my only weapon is music and that is why I decided to record the song. This is because music can reach a lot of a people in a very short space of time. I am happy because the local radio station is very supportive and the song is also being played in private vehicles, taxis and some shops that are selling essentials during the lockdown period.”

In the song, he warns community members to stay at home and only go out when it is absolutely necessary.

He said, “The problem with this virus is that it spreads very fast. Through the song, I urge people to take extra care for themselves and their families. I also encourage them to practise the highest form of hygiene, including washing hands continuously and to sanitise.”

The singer with a golden voice said the song is readily available for everyone and it is not for sale.

“This is not the time for making money. It is time for coming together as a nation and to find possible ways to curb this dangerous virus. I want everyone to get this song and I have shared it on various online platforms where people can download. I have also shared it in community WhatsApp groups and I encourage people to share it as widely as possible.”

He encourages the public to observe all precautionary measures to be safe until the pandemic passes.
