NEDBANK LIGHTS UP ITS HEAD OFFICE

On Monday 25 October, Nedbank’s head office in Rivonia, Sandton was lit up in the colours of the Rainbow Pride flag.

The bank noted that they are the first major bank in South Africa to deliver such a visual demonstration of commitment to a more inclusive and accepting society.

Nedbank’s LGBTQI+ Forum Chairperson Craig Barnes told Mamba Online that the idea for lighting up the building came from the members of the forum and Nedbank’s leadership quickly supported the idea.

“We hope that this visual show of allyship and support from one of South Africa’s most respected brands will help create a more tolerant, open and inclusive society.”

The building will stay colourfully lit for two weeks. With the building light-up, the bank has also created a social media campaign that will educate South Africans about the meaning of each of the colours in the Rainbow Pride flag.

R100 000 PLEDGE

The bank has also pledged R100 000 towards LGBTQI+ causes in South Africa which is a remarkable effort for the local LGBTQi+ community.

While they are still establishing how and under what criteria they will distribute the funds, registered NPOs can contact them in the interim.

This financial support will certainly go a long way for the LGBTQI+ community in South Africa.

NEDBANK’S ‘PEOPLE’S PROMISE’

Nedbank’s initiative aligns with their “People’s Promise” that states: “To be an organisation that makes a purpose-driven impact by positively influencing individuals, businesses and society, helping to build a culture of inclusion and belonging.”

Speaking on the “People’s Promise” Nedbank’s Group Executive for Marketing and Corporate Affairs Khensani Nobanda said: “Our Nedbank People Promise commits our bank and people to bring the positive difference that we want to see in society, and this initiative is a visual representation of that promise in action.”

“We hope that through this demonstration we will not only show our desire to be a strong voice in the country’s LGBTQI+ conversation but also help destigmatise the LGBTQI+ community in the interests of a more harmonious and tolerant South Africa.”
