QUEERTOPIA: ‘A REIMAGINING OF A COUNTRY’

Siwisa mentioned that Other Village People was founded because of a lack of safe spaces that prioritise LGBTQIA+ people. Siwisa and Dlamini have curated other LGBTQI+ events around the country such as Same Sex Saturdays and Annual All Black Edition.

“LGBTQIA+ [people] are often faced with discrimination, microaggressions and even hate crimes,” Siwisa told Eyewitness News.

Speaking about Queertopia, Siwisa described the event as a “reimagining of a country”.

“A new world order that normalises and celebrates our differences as if it’s always been that way.”

“The people are at the centre of Queertopia. Imagine what the world would feel like if it were designed by and for queer communities,” added Dlamini.

WHAT TO EXPECT!

Queertopia will have something for everyone. Day one is called The House of New Order. This will be a cocktail evening that will mark the opening ceremony of Queertopia. Congo Muffin, Rosie Parade and Thanda Kunene.
