Lasizwe is someone who is used to being in the spotlight, but the reality show star has found himself at the centre of a Twitter storm on Monday. He has suggested that ‘same-sex love’ and homosexual relationships should be introduced to the school curriculum at an early age – for children as young as seven.

Lasizwe’s Tweets about ‘same-sex love education’ sparks debate

Speaking to his 891 000 followers online, Lasizwe revealed he wanted youngsters to understand why a relative or a friend might end up marrying someone of the same sex or gender. He said that many South Africans ‘refuse to teach their children about homosexuality’, claiming this was an obstacle towards tolerance:

“I believe we need to start educating kids from the ages of seven about homosexuality and make them understand about same-sex love. I’m definitely teaching my children about the LGBTQI+ Community and these relationships.”

“Why are we refusing to teach our children about homosexuality and same-sex love? I feel like it’s important for kids to understand that It’s okay for dad, uncle, or brother to date or even marry the same gender without being judged or crucified for being themselves!”

A thorny topic exposes divisions on the timeline…

Lasizwe, who shared his initial opinions on Sunday night, doubled-down on Monday and went on to clarify his perspective. The comic and media personality says that people have misinterpreted his message, claiming that ‘same-sex love’ is not ‘same-sex intercourse’, and only the former should be introduced to young pupils.

But Twitter remains divided down two very polarising lines, and this debate won’t blow-over any time soon:
