While the country celebrates the last day of 2019, Nonhlanhla Soldaat, 28, and Hector Mkansi,37, will be enjoying life as a couple married in a dream wedding ceremony.

Dubbed the #KFCCouple following Mkansi’s proposal at a KFC branch, the two have garnered much attention from South Africans.

#KFCCouple showered with gifts

A video of the proposal went viral and resulted in numerous gifts, donations and contributions. These ranged from covering the actual wedding, but also their lobola negotiations, honeymoon and life as a married couple.

According to EWN, KFC’s public affairs director Zinhle Modiselle said they would co-ordinate the pledges on behalf of the couple.

“We’re going to make sure that there is somebody that is actually really pulling it together and making sure that the promises that we’ve received on social media is something that can be fulfilled and we can pass on to the couple and they can enjoy.”

Day left before big occasion

With just a day left to go until the big occasion, the couple and their team are preparing the final touches. Fortunately, many of the major elements have been covered already.

Popular event guru Precious the Planner has helped plan the wedding, and was with Soldaat when they searched for and found the perfect wedding dress.

DJ Black Coffee picks up tuxedo bill

Designer Tshepo Mashego made Mkansi’s tuxedo for the wedding. Mashego is the founder of Relevance for Men, a clothing label that makes tailored suits, formal shirts and chino trousers. Some of his clients include politicians Malusi Gigaba and Ronald Lamola.

The groom’s suit was made by Mashego and paid for by DJ Black Coffee. Mkani had a big grin on his face when he collected it from Relevance for Men.

Dream dress fit for a princess

Speaking to TimesLive, Soldaat shared her dreams for her wedding day:

“It’s so hard to say what I want, because growing up, my image of a perfect wedding was when a girl felt like a princess walking on glass in a beautiful gown. It would be great if I could wear a gown that’s not white, because I’ve done that already”.

While the couple prepare for their big day, South African’s continue to make humorous gripes about not being invited to join in the nuptials.
