Kaizer Chiefs fans have a new player to count on for the magic. He is only 19 and named Mduduzi Shabalala from Senaoane, Soweto.

MDUDUZI SHABALALA BECOMES KAIZER CHIEFS’ LEADING STAR

Following a long term injury to Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Shabalala stepped up to show the real meaning of preparation meets opportunity.

Shabalala has started four straight games and immidiately looked more dangerous than Ngcobo with two goals in eight appearances.

THE MDU OR DIE NICKNAME

Many of us have been hearing the Soweto-born player’s nickname of “Mdu or Die.” Does everyone know where it comes from?

Unsurprisingly, Shabalala’s nickname is related to kwaito music. Many of you may know the great kwaito legend Mdu Masilela, the iconic singer and producer released a classic album in 1998 during the height of his career.

The title was Mdu or Die. It featured some of Mdu’s biggest ever hits like Ok’salayo and O suna mang (ke le teng).
