Well, it is shiny.

iPhone X: Confirmed launch dat

So, after much speculation, it was confirmed by Apple on Tuesday that their flagship iPhone to celebrate the ten year anniversary is going to be called the iPhone X, as reported by thesouthafrican.com earlier on Tuesday.

The flagship device was launched alongside the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, and features similar specifications, but with a radically different design. And yes, it’s going to be all glass.

There’s not much to add to our previous report, except for a few things…

There’s no home button on the new iPhone X

There was some speculation about whether Apple would do away with the home button and it was confirmed on Tuesday that they would. The home button and fingerprint sensor have been removed on the front of the device.

The device can be unlocked using Apple’s new FaceID recognition technology. Apple said FaceID can recognise your face as a security measure, even when you are wearing glasses or change your hairstyle.

The  iPhone X screen size is 5.8-inches with a Super Retina OLED display. It also features dual cameras, fitted vertically on the back of the device. The front features the new TrueDepth 7MP camera system for a super selfie.

The iPhone X’s dual rear cameras are 12MP with f/1.8 and f/2.8 apertures.

Price and official launch date

The iPhone X will be available to pre-order from 27 October, and will launch on 3 November. The 64GB model will sell for $999.

No official word yet on when it will be officially available in South Africa.
