‘African Alchemy’: Inverroche Gin Academy now at Four Seasons!

The gin brand — which has been lauded as the pioneers of South African craft gin — has officially launched its new Gin Academy at the five-star hotel and you are invited…

EXPERIENCING THE GIN ACADEMY 

The first Inverroche Gin Academy was officially launched in 2017 in Stilbaai, in the Western Cape. There is also a gin academy in Cape Town (Misfits) and the newly launched one in Johannesburg (Four Seasons).

The unique experience offers gin lovers the opportunity begin their adventure into the world of “African Alchemy” and craft their own gin.

After a detailed explanation of the gin-making process and the Inverroche history by a brand ambassador, you are presented with the right tools for your session (and a welcome drink!): A copper pot still, a variety of botanicals and tinctures to choose from.

The ingredients range from thyme, rooibos, lavender, lemon zest, toasted coconut and a few others. 

Of course, the art of gin-making is about assessing what works for you and your palate…

After blending all the ingredients together, the mixture is added to the copper pot still with a flame underneath to create the alcohol. When the distilling process is complete, one bottles and puts a label on your creation. 

A TOAST TO A NEW FRIEND 

Carefully crafting your own gin could be nerve-wracking, so you might need a glass of smooth Inverroche Gin to calm your nerves.

Sharing a few laughs with your new friends over some canapés and a glass of tasty Inverroche Gin is what sets this experience apart from any others.  

You will also have the opportunity to taste four gins from the local gin brand. The Amber, Classic, Verdant and their new bright pink offer, Coco Capensis, all crafted at the Inverroche Distillery in Stilbaai. 

INVERROCHE GIN ACADEMY SESSIONS AND BOOKINGS 

The Inverroche Gin Academy at the Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff, in Johannesburg, is open Wednesday and Sunday. There are two sessions per day: One from 10:30 to 13:30 and another from 16:30 to 19:30. 

A two-hour gin-making session at the Four Seasons Gin Academy costs R1 250 per person.
